Emergency preparedness is realizing that things can and often do happen that can put us in a survival situation and therefore taking the necessary steps to increase your chances of survival. Emergency preparedness is not just about doomsayers and conspiracy theorists its about proper planning against things that often happen to change our normal way of life. Emergency preparedness is much more critical today than it was one hundred years ago not only because we have more to prepare against but because today we are much more dependent on our luxuries. Today a lot of people would not know what to do if their cell phone service was down much less what to do if they went to the store and all the shelves were empty. This is why emergency preparedness is so much more critical in our modern times. Not having emergency plans is like taking a ride into the back country with no spare tire in your vehicle, your just asking to have a miserable trip or not make it through at all. This is why I preach emergency preparedness so much its not about crackpots its just good common sense but a lot of people either do not think about it or make it a low priority until its too late. Being properly prepared is neither hard or expensive it just takes a little time and research. The first step in your emergency preparedness plan is to be aware of the possible emergency situations you may find yourself in. Many people think they do not live in a disaster prone area just because one hasn’t happened in their area in their life time. So did I before Mt. Saint Helens erupted in my backyard. So look and research your area you will be surprised at the events that happen in your area. There are the common things like hurricanes and earthquakes but some places only flood every one hundred years. Look for the unexpected. Then there is our economy a very real threat to all of us. Even if it does not get catastrophic, unemployment is increasing and probably will for awhile. Its better to buy and stock long term food now while you have a little extra income than to find yourself unemployed and unable to feed your family. So take emergency preparedness seriously, do a little planning. Buy a proper disaster survival kit if you are in a disaster area and everyone should put some stock in long term storage food even if you do not need it for an emergency it’s a great hedge against inflation.
